What issues can counseling help me with?

Counseling can assist with a range of issues, including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, and personal growth.

How do I know if counseling is right for me?

Counseling can be beneficial for anyone seeking support, self-discovery, or coping strategies. If you're facing challenges or seeking personal growth, counseling may be a helpful option.

What approaches do you use in counseling?

I employ various evidence-based approaches, tailoring the approach to your unique needs.  My skills include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR for trauma, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and person-centered therapy. For couples counseling, I appreciate the Gottman Method, Narrative therapy and psychoeducation, and communication exercises to enhance communication within the relationship.

How long does a counseling session typically last?

Sessions typically last 50 minutes, but the duration can be adjusted based on individual needs, such as if EMDR, Sand Tray, or other techniques may be beneficial in helping address your issues.

Is what I share in counseling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a crucial aspect of counseling. Information shared is kept private, except in situations where there's a risk of harm to yourself or others.  We will discuss these topics before we begin to ensure you understand the considerations related to confidentiality.

How often should I attend counseling sessions?

Frequency varies based on your needs. Initially, weekly sessions are common, and we can adjust as progress is made.  If there are more significant needs, we can schedule several sessions within a week.

How can counseling help with trauma?

Counseling, particularly with approaches like EMDR, can help process and heal from traumatic experiences, reducing distress and promoting resilience.

What if I'm not sure what my goals are for counseling?

That's okay… life is complex. We can work together to explore your concerns and identify goals as we progress.

Can I bring up anything in counseling, or are there limitations?

You can discuss any concerns you have. The counseling space is open and non-judgmental.

How do I schedule a counseling session?

You can schedule a session by contacting me through phone, email, or the online scheduling system on the website.

Is counseling only for individuals, or do you offer couples counseling?

I provide both individual and couples counseling. Relationship dynamics can be addressed in a supportive and confidential environment.

Can I bring my child to counseling, or is it only for adults?

I offer counseling for individuals of various ages, including children and adolescents struggling with issues in a sometimes chaotic life.

Do you offer virtual or online counseling sessions?

Yes, virtual counseling sessions are available for those who prefer or require remote sessions.

How long does counseling typically last?

I want to help you learn skills to help you change your life… not be my client forever.  But, as individuals and the challenges they face are different, the duration of counseling varies based on individual needs and goals. Short-term and long-term options are available.

What if I'm not comfortable talking about certain topics?

We go at your pace, and you are in control of what you share. We can explore topics as you feel ready.

Is counseling covered by insurance?

At this time, I operate as a self-pay practice, allowing flexibility and confidentiality without the constraints of insurance.  I am exploring options with various insurance companies.

Can counseling help with workplace-related issues?

Yes, counseling can provide strategies for managing workplace stress, improving communication, learning critical skills, and enhancing overall well-being.

What if I need urgent support between sessions?

Unfortunately, Open Sky Wellness is not a crisis facility.  If you have an urgent need, please contact emergency services. For non-emergencies, we can discuss available resources and coping strategies during sessions.

How will I know if counseling is making a difference for me?

We regularly assess progress together based upon your specific goals. You'll notice positive changes in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors over time, and will be learning new skills.
